False Ad Verification Email Scam

Important Note: we never re-publish advertisements which have been suspended or removed from our network. If you receive an email which appears to be from the carsales network telling you an advertisement has been 'verified' or given 'the all clear', it is a fraudulent email and should be deleted immediately.

An email scam is being circulated to buyers who have enquired on a listing which has been suspended or removed on the suspicion that it may be a false or scam advertisement.

The email has been made to look like it was sent by the carsales network, and advises buyers that the advertisement was withdrawn from display for verification purposes and after contacting the seller the item has now been confirmed as a genuine sale.

Email scams like these can include:

  1. A description or details of the false listing that was suspended or removed.

  2. Personal details of the seller including their name, email and phone numbers.

  3. Persistent requests to continue with the transaction.

  4. False imagery such as screen grabs of the website or carsales newsletter.
