Fraudulent carsales Email Scam

Important Note: the carsales network will never ask you to download an attachment via email. If you receive an email which appears to be from the carsales network telling you a customer service email has been infected with a virus attachment, it is a fraudulent email and should be deleted immediately.

An email scam is being circulated to recipients of a false ad warning from the carsales network Customer Service Team with an email scam.

Scammers are sending this email to stop us from trying to protect you from online fraud.

The fraudulent email has been made to look like it was sent by the carsales network and advises recipients of the legitimate false ad warning email that it is a ‘hoax’ which may download viruses to your computer when opened.

Viruses are typically buried as attachments or links within emails and can only be made active if the attachment or link is opened.

If you are unsure about any links provided in an email you have received, or ever in doubt about the legitamacy of any email communication you can contact our Customer Service Team on 03 9093 8666 between the hours of 8am-7pm weekdays or visit our help centre as this is updated regularly.

Email scams like these can include:

  1. carsales.com.au logos and branding.

  2. Links to sites or topics which are not related to the carsales network.

  3. Unusual contact details, including addresses from free email service providers or generic addresses such as email@info.com.au.
