An email scam is being circulated to potential buyers who have enquired on a fraudulent ad confirming their intent to purchase the item. The email includes specific details for how buyers can complete payment for the item, specifically requesting a deposit be paid to a carsales “Agent” via Bank Transfer. Fraudsters will often request that all payments are to be made through a specific “Carsales Agent Bank Account”.
Email scams like these include:
- Carsales.com.au logos and branding.
- Details of the false vehicle listings enquired on.
- An individuals ‘personal’ bank account details.
- Warnings against providing details of the transaction to anyone other than via the links to “customer service” provided in the email.
- Requesting payment through Google checkout.
