'You have new messages' Email Scam

Important Note: The carsales network will never ask you to click on a direct link in an email to update your account information or enter personal information, nor will we ask you to provide your account information or login details by reply email.

An email scam is being circulated to sellers, claiming to be from the carsales network, advising customers they have new messages from potential buyers to view via a 'quick link'.

The email has been made to look like it was sent from the carsales network. Links provided in this email are directed to a false version (a ghost website) of carsales.com.au and are used to obtain sellers login and contact details.

Email scams like these can include:

  1. carsales.com.au logos and branding.
  2. Unusual contact details, including addresses from free email service providers or generic addresses such as email@carsales-protection.com.au.
  3. Unusual URL links to websites which appear to be genuine, such as www.carsalesenquiry.org which require customer to enter their login or personal contact details.

Here's an example of the type of email you might get and type of fake site you can be sent to:
