Be wary of emails claiming to be from the carsales network Customer Service Team advising a listing has been falsely removed. If you're unsure about an email from the Customer Service Team you can contact us directly to confirm the details of the email.

Sellers have been targeted by an email scam claiming to be from carsales customer service advising an ad has been "falsely removed".

An email scam is being circulated to potential sellers who have enquired on a listing that has been suspended or removed on the suspicion that it may be a false or scam advertisement. The email advises potential buyers that the advertisement was withdrawn from display for verification purposes and that after contacting the seller the item has now been confirmed as a genuine sale. The email encourages buyers to get in contact with seller directly, providing personal contact details such as an email address or mobile phone number.

Email scams like these can include:

  1. A description or details of the false listing that was suspended or removed.
  2. Personal details of the seller including their name, email and phone numbers.
  3. Persistent requests to continue with the transaction.
  4. Warnings against providing details of the transaction to anyone other than via the links to customer service provided in the email.
