Smishing

next article >
Scammers are sophisticated criminals who will try to trick people into providing login details, personal information and credit card details. One way scammers will try to do this is to send SMS messages.

A scammer may send you a text message, claiming to be from Carsales, advising you to login to your account, and provide credit card details. Carsales does not send SMS messages to customers. If you receive a suspicious text message, do not click any links. Do not respond to a text message via email.

What you can do to avoid these scams?

There are a few things you can do to avoid taking the bait.

  • Do not respond to a text message via email.
  • Always check the phone number the message is coming from.
  • Never click any links in text messages that ask you to login to your account. To review/edit your ad you should always open your browser and type in the webpage, eg. www.carsales.com.au then click on ‘Manage My Ad’.
  • If you are ever unsure please phone our Customer Support team on 03 9093 8666 for further information.
