Phishing Attack

next article >
Scammers are sophisticated criminals who will try to trick people into providing information and credit card details. In this example, scammers have sent an email that appears to have been sent from Carsales.com.au. In this example the email address that has been used by scammers is not something that Carsales would use iyaspnzjmq@safetymail.info. In the Subject line the word ‘susspended’ has also been misspelt.

What can you do to avoid these scams? There are a few things you can do to avoid taking the bait.
  • Always check the email address from the sender
  • Never click any links in emails that ask you to login to your account, always go to the website, eg. http://www.carsales.com.au and follow the links to login
  • If you are ever unsure please phone our Customer Support team on 03 9093 8666 during business hours.

If someone does click the link in this email, they are taken to a ‘phishing’ website which is setup as a copy of the legitimate Carsales login page. The URL is different to the usual login page:

http://digiland.com.ua/048/Carsales%20Network%20Seller%20Engine.htm

A Security Certificate which is usually present on the real Carsales login page is not on the scammers false page.

  • Familiarise yourself with the login page and check the URL before entering your login details
If someone does happen to enter their login details on this page, they are then taken to another phishing website requesting credit card details. Carsales will never request you to confirm your credit card details from a link in an email.

  • Check the URL before entering any personal details
  • Carsales will never ask to confirm your credit card details
